Insurance Claims Guide · Roofing Service

A roof insurance claim in Oklahoma follows a clear path: you report the damage, an adjuster inspects it, the insurer approves a scope and payment, and the repair gets done. The steps are simple on paper, but small mistakes can cost you money or slow the whole process down. This guide walks through how a roof claim works and how R&R Roofing and Construction helps at each stage. We have served Oklahoma property owners since 2009 and offer insurance claim assistance as part of our storm work.

When a roof claim makes sense

Not every roof problem belongs on an insurance claim. Normal wear and age are usually your responsibility as the owner. Sudden damage from a covered event, such as a hailstorm or high wind, is what most policies are built to handle. Oklahoma sees a lot of both, so many roof claims here come out of spring and summer storms.

A good first step is an honest inspection. We look at the roof, document what we find, and tell you plainly whether the damage looks like a storm event worth filing on or like wear that a claim would not cover. That keeps you from filing a claim that goes nowhere, which can still count against your record.

Step one: document the damage

Strong claims start with good records. Before you call your insurer, it helps to have proof of what the storm did and when.

Take dated photos of the roof from the ground and of any damage inside the home, such as ceiling stains or wet insulation. Keep any receipts for temporary fixes, like tarps or buckets, since some policies reimburse those costs. Note the date of the storm, because insurers often ask when the damage happened.

When R&R inspects your roof, we add to that record with our own photos and written notes of the hail bruises, wind damage, and any water intrusion we find. That documentation gives you a clear, honest account of the damage to bring to your insurer.

Step two: file with your insurer

Once you have your records, you contact your insurance company to open the claim. They will ask for your policy number, the date of loss, and a description of the damage. Read your policy so you understand your deductible and whether you carry replacement cost value or actual cash value coverage, because that difference changes how much you receive.

Be honest and specific. Report only the damage that is real. An accurate claim moves faster and protects you if questions come up later. If you are unsure how to describe what happened, we can help you speak to the damage in plain terms.

Step three: the adjuster inspection

After you file, your insurer sends an adjuster to inspect the roof and estimate the cost of repair. The adjuster works for the insurance company, so their job is to measure the loss fairly from the insurer's point of view. This is one of the most important moments in the whole process.

We think it is smart to have your roofer on the roof at the same time as the adjuster. R&R can meet your adjuster during that inspection, point out the damage we documented, and make sure real problems are not overlooked. Our goal is a scope that matches the actual damage. We do not ask an adjuster to approve work that a roof does not need, and we do not want you paying for damage that was missed.

Step four: review the scope and payment

The insurer sends back a written scope of covered work and an estimate. This document lists each item they will pay for, along with your deductible and any depreciation held back. It pays to read it closely.

Sometimes the first scope leaves out parts of the job, such as flashing, underlayment, or code-required upgrades. If we see that the approved scope does not cover the full repair the roof needs, we can point to our documentation and help you and your insurer reach an accurate number. This back-and-forth is normal and is part of getting the claim right.

Step five: repair and final payment

With an approved scope in hand, the repair or replacement gets scheduled. If your policy carries replacement cost value, the insurer usually pays part up front and releases the held-back depreciation once the work is finished and documented. We handle the job from start through final cleanup and provide the paperwork your insurer needs to close the claim.

How R&R keeps the process honest

Our role is to document the real damage, communicate clearly with you and your adjuster, and complete quality work. We are a GAF Certified contractor working under Oklahoma roofing license #80007251, and we are licensed and insured. We will never tell you to file a claim for damage that is not there, and we will not inflate a scope. An honest claim protects you, your insurer, and your future coverage.

For the storm work behind many of these claims, see our storm damage restoration page, and if a claim leads to a new roof, our roof replacement page explains that work in full.
